It's no secret that American Idol is looking for a few new judges and it seems the singing competition already has one very qualified individual interested in the gig.

"The Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin told CNN in an e-mail Saturday that she is interested in joining Idol as a judge. The 18-time Grammy winner says she is a longtime fan of the show and would also like to bring fellow legendary songstress Patti LaBelle as her fellow judge.

Randy Jackson speaks out on Lopez and Tyler's Idol departures

Fox declined to comment to CNN about Franklin's e-mail.

Now headed into its 12th season, Idol lost two judges this week: Steven Tyler announced his exit on Thursday, followed by Jennifer Lopez on Friday. Both had been on the show for two seasons. Randy Jackson, who has been on the judging panel since the show's 2002 debut, is the only remaining judge.

The celebrities vying for the vacant seats reportedly include Mariah Carey and Idol Season 8 runner-up, Adam Lambert.

How do you think Franklin would do as a judge?
