British police are looking into an incident in which celebrity chef Nigella Lawson was repeatedly choked during an argument with her husband, Charles Saatchi, over dinner at a restaurant in London, according to reports.
Photographs of the couple dining at Scott's in Mayfair were published in Britain's Sunday People over the weekend, and appear to show Saatchi, 70, reaching over and gripping Lawson, 53, around the throat four times.
"At one stage he tweaked her nose then pushed both hands in her face," according to the Sunday People report. "Twice Nigella jerked her head backwards as if in fear. Several times she nodded intently while the conversation became more and more heated."
Witnesses told Sunday People that the Taste star was "distraught and in tears" by the end of the meal.
"It was utterly shocking to watch," one onlooker said. "I have no doubt she was scared. It was horrific, really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes."
Scotland Yard is reportedly investigating the incident, though Lawson has not filed charges. Lawson and Saatchi have been married since 2003.
