Ryan Murphy Comedy 'The New Normal' Ordered to Series by NBC

NBC has ordered the comedy pilot "The New Normal," from "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy and co-executive producer Allison Adler, to series.

The comedy focuses on a blended family created by a gay couple and a surrogate mother. The single-camera series, from 20th Century Fox TV and Ryan Murphy Productions, is executive produced by Murphy, Adler, and Dante Di Loreto.

It stars Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha, Georgia King, Bebe Wood, and Ellen Barkin. Jayson Blair will recur.

Earlier Monday, NBC announced a series order for the pilot Anne Heche pilot, "Save Me," in which she will play a woman in a broken marriage who becomes her best self and performs miracles. NBC has also ordered the Matthew Perry pilot "Go On" and the drama "Hannibal," about the early years of "Silence of the Lamb" villain Hannibal Lecter.

NBC will announce the rest of its drama and comedy slate on Sunday, the day before its upfront presentation to advertisers.
