See the poster art for History Channel's 'Vikings'

Michael Hirst, creator of Showtime's "The Tudors" and Starz's "Camelot," is back; this time he's bringing his acclaimed historical perspective to an appropriate venue, the History Channel. His new scripted series, "Vikings," opens up the world of these Dark Ages warriors from the perspective of Ragnar Lothbrook (Travis Fimmel). An ambitious Ragnor is frustrated by his chieftain's demands and is compelled to discover new worlds across the ocean. While this leads to obstacles and discord at nearly every turn, it also leads to innovation, when he and his friend create the sleekest, fastest boats ever constructed.

In this first look at promo art for "Vikings," Ragnor is peering through a metal "V"-shaped weapon with a determined and piercing expression. The "V" represents the cultural dimensions of the Viking world. The left side is packed with symbolism: The upper section signifies technological advances; the middle represents the unbreakable bonds of brotherhood; and the lower, ornate portion represents evolution and life. The right side of the "V" is grimmer, representing the bloody conflicts that this society of raiders is known for. Clearly, this weapon has been used.

"Vikings" premieres Sunday, 3/3 at 10 PM on the History Channel.
