Sept. 20 on "The View," Sherri Shepherd's hubby Lamar Sally shared the screen with his wife as co-host. Sal, as he's commonly known, is a comedy writer. Whoopi Goldberg was absent as she's in Paris to launch the latest staged production of her hit. "Sister Act." With Barbara Walters at the helm, Sherri and Sal were joined by a lively Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Anytime a man sits down with the ladies at the table, it's always interesting to see whether he can keep up. After all, this is the chat fest that made the morning coffee clutch popular again. With any number of copycat shows, the name of the game is boldly expressing one's opinions and trying to be heard in the fray while remaining likable.
The L factor
Likability is key, and Sal has it in spades and hearts. It was fun to watch his easy rapport with Sherri. Clearly the duo is a match made in comedy heaven. Sal immediately won over the audience when Sherri said that they've been married a year, and he corrected her to say, "One year and one month." There's something about a man being up on his anniversary that makes the ladies swoon, right?
Sexy talk
Sal is a big guy in stature, but he comes across as a loveable teddy bear. Of course, with BW running the show, the S&M book "50 Shades of Grey" came up. The crew was discussing a controversial Vogue Hommes International Magazine cover. The mag depicts model Stephanie Seymour being choked in a sensual manner by a male model. Add a conversation about men dreaming about sex and know you're starting to feel one tenth of the awkwardness of Sherri and Sal's exchanges in this segment.
On parenting
When they spoke about Sal parenting Sherri's sweet son, Jeffrey, things were much more tolerable. Barbara insisted on knowing whether Sal was able to discipline Jeffrey. Both Sal and Sherri agreed that Jeffrey was too easygoing to require much disciplining.
Body love
Sal also earned extra points when a new photo of Lady Gaga was discussed. The photo was meant to reveal that Mother Monster has gained weight. However, Gaga still looked fit, happy, and beautiful. Sal said that he loves a woman who has curves.
Overall?
Well done, Sal. We give you a strong A- and hope to see you at the table again soon. Next up, Tim Hasselbeck joins the "View" team for Guy Day Friday.
