"The Amazing Race" definitely is more than just a race as couples test out their love and relationships. Look at the number of couples that have learned how to get along better, have strengthened their relationship, learned that they probably don't belong together. We have even seen a proposal or two.
Season 19 Long time married couple Bill and Cathi not only showed that senior citizens can hold their own when competing for one million dollars but that love can last. Married 40 years this team never yelled, screamed, or blamed each other. What is the key to their lasting relationship? They admit, they are best friends, they communicate and they respect each other.
Who could forget the most colorful of couples, Kent and Vyxsin the Goth couple that got more than a second look wherever they may go. Who would have thought this team could go the many miles of "The Amazing Race" not once but twice as they got to return to "Unfinished Business." While they may have argued over whose fault it was that they lost, they admit later that it was all heat of the moment sort of response.
Team Chad and Stephanie arrived as a dating couple, until during The Amazing Race's 17th season, when Chad not only proposed to Stephanie but she accepted. Adversity must make the heart grow stronger, because they had time to get engaged and win that leg of the race. Their prize package was the perfect honeymoon, a trip to Belize.
There is a method to the madness on "The Amazing Race." One formula that the show sticks to is to have a team that is always a little or a lot controversial. Team Rob and Amber managed to turn their relationship into a competition to see how many reality television shows that they could appear on, and maybe even win. Some people loved them, some hated them but one thing this couple knew how to do was "survive" as they made appearances on "Survivor," "The Amazing Race," "Survivor Marquesas," and even managed to get CBS to pay for their wedding, which of course was televised.
Yet another "celebrity" couple/team takes on the most loved or hated category of couples Brendan and Rachel from "Big Brother." Not only did Rachel win the prize and get the guy but now this couple takes on Season 20 of "The Amazing Race."
