    Simon Cowell Shrugs Off X Factor Ratings Dip: We Were 'Expecting' It

    The ratings wars for the various reality TV singing competitions are almost as competitive as the singers battling it out for titles, but when it comes to "The X Factor's" dip in viewers, Simons Cowell says he was not surprised.

    Access Hollywood spoke to the "X Factor" honcho at season finale press conference, where we asked about the 25 percent decline in viewers compared to last season.

    "We were expecting that there was going to be a problem with the ratings this year," Simon said.

    According to Brit, there are just too many shows on the air.

    "Not just with us, but with everything because its overkill," he continued.

    However, the reality mogul suggested the answer to dwindling viewers might be in the palm of our hands or on our computer screens.

    "We're going into a new world now where Twitter, Facebook, the social media part of things are so important," he continued.

    "The X Factor" might have lost some viewers, but according to Simon, gained news ones in a key demographics.

    "We've made a decision this year, that we were going to bring in a whole new young audience. And that's what we succeeded in and we grow from there," he said.

    "The X Factor" finale airs Wednesday and Thursday at 8 PM on FOX.
