Social Power Rankings: Don't Shoot the Messenger, Fringe Fans!

Our recent Fall TV Scorecard (in which we offer our take on various shows' chances for renewal or cancellation) merely suggested that things might not be looking so good for the low-rated Fringe  — and boy, did we hear about it! Your outpouring of support for the Fox drama made it the No. 1 show in our Social Power Rankings.

Seriously though. Fringe freaks went cray-zy at the mere mention of its potential cancellation. @drebombay tweeted, "OMG, if @FringeOnFox got canceled, I would cry, full out. It fills the hole in my heart left by #TheXFiles. Best show out there!" On TVGuide.com, ChristineTV also fears for her own emotional stability. "I will likely enter a fugue state when Fringe is canceled. It is the best show on television! Fox, I will quit you for good if you cancel Fringe."

Is an uproar against Fox imminent? Quite possibly! "We should flood the network with emails to keep Fringe on the air!" said amish2000 on TVGuide.com

What do you think? Would you just die if Fox canceled Fringe?

Here's what else has you talking this week: The Oscars! (they're Sunday) and Summer Glau's guest spot on Grey's Anatomy.

Check back anytime to see the latest Social Power Rankings, which are updated in real time throughout the week.

Seems whenever they get a well written good show that's the one they cancel.

You #$%$nn right if Fox cancels Fringe I'll never watch another Fox show again! It's just too much garbage on television.Although i think Fringe is the type of show that would get picked up by another network even if it did get cancelled
      • Wiwi 2 months ago
I hope it will get picked up elsewhere if they nix it.

Fringe should not be cancelled nor should smash. It seems like the networks keep crap and cancel good drama.

Someone tell FOX a show can't be rated high if is Preempted, moved, put on Hiatus, etc Is just not possible. This is the same network that stuck with many shows in the beginning that turned out to be the foundation of a network. 1 of those is still on today. Seems today if a show is not #1 rated by the second episode, is cancelled or moved to Friday night. You moved Fringe to Friday Mr Fox and the fans moved with it. You moved Bones to Thursdays and the fans moved with it. Should tell you something. But probably wont!!!!!

Part of the problem is that they have Fringe on friday night at this time. They need to move it to a better day and time to give it a chance for one move season. The last four episodes have been awesome. Don't drop it...

Of course Fringe is the only show on TV to poke you and entice you to wonder outside the box about us, life, the universe. It is an exciting show. I hope they don't take it off the air. Most of the programs they show on regular TV is beyond boring and tasteless to no end Fringe is one of the few show which shine ever so bright it would be a shame to cut it.

Only the BEST shows get cancelled. If it makes you think, It's on the way out. Mindless garbage like the Simpsons lasts forever. The only problem with Fringe, like all the other story series, is the long gap between "seasons". It's bad enough that we only get 1/2 an hour of show per hour due to commercials but we also only get ~10 shows each 1/2 season. Fox and all the other stations don't care about what we like. They just want to put more commercials on the air. Soon, DVD movies will be the only way to see a show.

Fringe is like X-Files meet The Twilight Zone. Please dont cancel it or it will create a rift with time-continuum and the alternate universe may send in the shapeshifters.

People stop watching shows when there is talk of it being cancelled. I love Fringe and watch it every week. I liked The Firm, but with the talk of it being cancelled, I quit watching it. Shows that I don't if they are going to last, I keep on my DVR for 4 or 5 weeks and then if there is the cancelled talk - I don't even try to watch them.

DON'T CANCEL FRINGE. Cancel some of those awful reality shows where people do stupid outrageous crap to be on television. They should call it Stupidity TV not reality tv.
      • gardener224 2 months ago
Keep Fringe, Terra Nova, and American Horror Story on the air. I like to be entertained. I guess reality TV must pay alot because who in their right mind would want to go on TV and air all their dirty laundry???????

I dont watch any tv programs on Fox. I've been burned way to many times with them. Double that if its a sci fi show. Why waste my time investing in a show that they will cancel. I'm still hurting from Firefly. I was interested in Fringe, but I knew better than to waste the time watching.

Seriously, if Fringe were to get cancelled, I would stop watching Fox. I already gave up on ABC. I look forward to this show every week. I DVR it so I don't miss anything.

Fringe is awesome! J.J. Abrams, his committed cast and crew are devoted to creating original content that empowers us to embrace our unique gifts, beauty and power. I would love to work with J.J. in my lifetime. So cool!

Not surprising about Fringe. I watch it but the ratings are just not there. In the latest "TV By the Numbers" on Fox shows (a website that is mostly right), the shows facing near certain cancelation are (in order, from worst ratings): Alcatraz, Fringe, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, and The Finder. The only real hopes Fringe have at this point is that the production company (WB) takes a price cut, and the fact it is on Friday allows it to go one more year. It is in the stiuation Chuck was in every year of its existance - and only cost cutting and fan outpouring gave it five season. Fringe may get one more season, but it will take a combination of fan input and cost cutting by the WB to make it happen. Problem is, the fan outpouring for Chuck has never happened for Fringe. The lack of posts here is just part of the problem.

The ratings is a bunch of nonsense,,,only older people actually fill out the form for ratings that comes to homes,,,and I would imagine that those older people dont get it.....so therefore they dont watch it.....

I like "Fringe", too, but my life won't end if it gets cancelled. Yes, I watch it every week- its quirky, weird, different, and I like all of these characters- but as Bill Shatner said about Star Trek *( another of my favorites from the past), "get a life!" He moved on, and so can we.

    What to Watch This Weekend
