Star Jones Returns to The View Six Years After Nasty Exit

Star Jones returned to The View's couch Wednesday six years after her abrupt exit and sure had a few hot topics to get off her chest.

Taking part in two segments, Jones, 49, was welcomed with open arms by current cohosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd. "I can say this genuinely: I am so happy to welcome back Star Jones!" Walters, 82, gushed to viewers when introducing her former colleague Wednesday.

    PHOTOS: Bitter Hollywood feuds

After the women exchanged pleasantries, Jones detailed her motivations behind announcing her plans to leave The View in 2006 in a surprise segment instead of going ahead with the pre-planned reveal she and Walters had agreed upon.

    PHOTOS: Unforgettable TV catfights

"I take full responsibility for my own behavior, but I won't take responsibility if I did not make a decision I couldn't live with," Jones said. "I made the decision to go out on my own terms, to control it, so that if I was ever invited back, I would feel good about it."

"To say we were surprised is putting it mildly," Walters reasoned, admitting to viewers that Jones' contract was simply not renewed.

During her Wednesday appearance -- which she also used to raise awareness of heart disease -- Jones thanked the View women for going to bat for her during her 2003 gastric bypass surgery.

Jones knew asking her colleagues to specifically withhold information about her surgery and instead tell viewers she shed the weight through diet and Pilates was a tall order, but one The View's Walters was happy to agree to.

"Because we loved you, we did lie," Walters told Jones.

Putting their differences aside, Behar was among the first to applaud Jones' 160 pound weight loss, regardless of the circumstances. "You're now a skinny bitch," she joked. "Congratulations!"

Did you watch it??? Star's reunion was hilarious.....;Babs couldn't let bygones be bygones..... what's her face, oh yeah, Elissssssabeth stuttered constantly trying to change the subject, Star was ready to walk off the set.......Babs just couldn't let it go.......the others didn't know what camera to look in.....Babs just could NOT let it go.......and Joy pounced on everything Star tried to say (not that I'm a Star fan). It was hilarious. Thanks 'The View' you made laugh. You all looked like a bunch of scorned women who really loved and truely support each other. Who needs the Housewives of NY??? We have ya'll.

I like Star Jones and applaud her for taking control of her own life and not allowing other people to do so. She's a smart woman, knowledgeable and really happy that she has been able to overcome some of her health issues. Kudos to "The View" for bringing her back on the show and letting bygones be bygones.

Brett, it's just my opinion and I'm free to express it. You are free to disagree but you don't need to be insulting about it; makes you look like an ignorant idiot...just sayin' y'all.

I thought Star Jones did well. I cant imagine someone firing me but then still wanting me to be nice to them on TV and behave as if everything is okay. At 82, Barbara Walters should retire and give a chance to someone. She has enough money to last her 3 lifetimes.

I totally agree with you. Star Jones is not one of my favorite people, but when you're right , you're right.Barbara always wants to be the one proven to know what's best.

FINALLY someone who takes responsibility for her behaviour! THIS is how grown ups act. I still don't like her, but I can at least respect her.

Gee, ratings for "The View" must be really slipping. This is the same kind of BS they'd pull on those "reality" shows, bringing back someone everyone hates, just because they cause controversy and that leads to higher ratings.
Congratulations "The View". You have now joined the ranks of shows like "Big Brother" and "Survivor". You can now be counted amongst the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR of television.

Did we forget what led to her departure. She kept talking on & on about how perfect her man was. Then she was going behind Barbara's back getting freebies for her wedding. That was putting the integrity of the show in jeopardy. That is why Barbara had to fire her. She is a selfish, self-centered #$%$

Did you see how Star Jones constantly kissed Donald Trump's butt on "The Apprentice"? I never liked this woman. She is sooo fake!

I wish they'd have Rosie back, but that's never going to happen. She was the best part of that show.

someone hurry up and get that pig off the show before she starts with her stuck up Diva crap again.

Since the establishment let the air out of her kickball sized head she's nice and docile. She won't dare be uppity to Barbara again.

She's better off for leaving that group of bitter women at The View. She's not uppity; just better off than you.

Vanessa, you'll never get a man with that attitude. Go make a sandwich.

Stop Hating on Star Jones people. For all of you who can't stand an intelligent, educated, strong black female. When Rosie's told Elizabeth off on the show and quit I didn't see half the amount of Haters coming against Rosie O like they did Star Jones!!! What did Star Jones do to America??? She had major surgery, got married and then got fired for it that's why they welcomed her back because they knew EVERYONE over reacted to the whole situation. STOP HATING AMERICA move on!!!
      • Brett 3 months ago
No, you're wrong. She got uppity and Barbara whooped her like a dog. Now that her career is in the toilet she is groveling back on her beer belly. Open your eyes and see what time it really is.

        You're wrong, Brett.

It happens that my back had gone out right around the time Star Jones left the show, so I was at home with nothing to do, and I caught most of those episodes. Star was openly mean to Rosie, and Meredith and Joy, for that matter. Being black DOES NOT entitle you to be rude and nasty. THAT'S why she was fired. You can put all the "spin" you like on it, she was MEAN!
