‘Suburgatory’ Season 1 recap, Season 2 preview: Rachel Dratch, Tim Meadows, Paula Newsome to guest star

"Suburgatory" began with a funny look into the ridiculously superficial lifestyles of the self-obsessed residents of Chatswin. The show kept its quirky tone, but became surprisingly serious and emotional as it slowly revealed their hidden unhappiness and toxic secrets.

    Season 1 recap

George and Tessa went from cool roomies to an overprotective dad and moody teen daughter. After Eden decided Tessa must long for her absentee mother, George made a demanding phone call to Tessa's estranged maternal grandmother. Just as Tessa was at her breaking point, her grandmother arrived in Chatswin.

Lisa became suspicious that she was adopted, but a DNA test certified her as a genuine Shay. She wallowed in the despair of being related to Shelia until she reinterpreted the clues and realized her brother was adopted.

Dalia was too busy extorting gifts from her parents to notice that Dallas was stylishly suffering through the divorce. Dallas stayed busy at her crystal shop, and leaned on Tessa, Yakult, and Carmen for support. A trip to the hospital and a medication-induced hallucination made her realize she needed her daughter.

Eden was unhappy in Chatswin, but George helped her cope with the Werners. She went into early labor at her endangered species baby shower.

    Season 2 spoilers

According to TV Line, "Saturday Night Live" alumni Rachel Dratch and Tim Meadows will appear. Meadows and Paula Newsome will play Malik's parents.
