Please be warned that spoilers follow. The mind-blowing "Suits" episode "Asterisk" had everything normally found in a premiere or finale. The lives of all the main characters change (or are about to change) in some significant way. In this episode, the lives of Donna (Sarah Rafferty), Louis (Rick Hoffman), Rachel (Meghan Markle), and Mike (Patrick J. Adams) all change. The lives of Harvey (Gabriel Macht), Jessica (Gina Torres), and Hardman (David Costabile) are about to change (next week).
Harvey basically grovels (in his his own, high-class way) to get Donna back. She makes him suffer a little while before finally agreeing. He knew he could do it, but as viewers learn later in the episode, he doesn't mind making himself uncomfortable for the sake of "winning."
Louis is promoted!
Hardman promotes Louis in order to buy his vote for managing partner. With Louis as Harvey's equal (senior partner), his vote could demote Jessica and put Hardman in charge of the firm. Louis is easily bought, even though he knows Hardman is a snake. In fact, he used to hate Hardman until Jessica and Harvey removed him five years ago. He has a short memory when a promotion is involved.
Harvey is willing to sacrifice his office to win Louis over
As mentioned above, Harvey doesn't mind making himself uncomfortable as long as he gets what he wants in the end. When Harvey first got his office, it was just a perk of receiving a promotion. He likes his office, but it was never his goal. He knows Louis wants to see him suffer, so he tells Jessica to offer up his office, but she doesn't take the offer. In any case, it's likely that Louis will want to see him suffer in a more substantial way. Namely, he wants to see Harvey lose.
Rachel passes the LSATs
Rachel can finally live her dream. She passed the "big bad test," which she thought was impossible. She can now be a lawyer. With some help from Mike, she may be able to rise fairly quickly in the ranks.
Mike's Grammy visits and passes
Mike's Grammy visits the office in the most charming scene ever on "Suits." She finally meets Rachel, giving away the fact that Mike called her "hot," and Harvey, giving away the fact that Mike called him a more "colorful" name.
Unfortunately, the visit was her swan song. Mike buys Grammy a new, beautiful apartment to show his appreciation to her. She passes on before she ever gets to see it. Rachel meets up with him in the new apartment to share the sad news. The tender moment that follows Mike's confusion and sudden realization that Grammy is really gone is a tearjerker. Mike buries his head in Rachel's shoulder, sobbing.
Will Hardman take over as managing partner on the next "Suits" episode, "High Noon"? Will Mike and Rachel get back together now that he needs extra emotional support? Find out on Thursday, 8/23. at 10PM ET on USA Network.
