The dramatic TV show "Sons of Anarchy" is a dark story that centers on Jax Teller, played by Charlie Hunnam. As a member of the notorious motorcycle gang, Jax struggles to find balance in all aspects of his life. It's no surprise that this show has become a mega hit for FX with a devoted following.
Tara Summers will be joining the cast this season playing the role Dr. Karen Dunhill. Tara's character will be working primarily with Maggie Siff's character, Tara Knowles. Summers sat down to chat about the show, her preparation for her role, and meeting the cast for the first time. While Tara could not reveal all the details about her character, she did open about her experience on the set of "Sons of Anarchy."
You play the role of Karen Dunhill on "Sons of Anarchy." Can you tell us a bit about your role?
I can tell you a little bit. I play a doctor who comes on the show to work with the character Tara, who is played by Maggie Siff. My character does not know anything about who Tara is married to or her double life. So my character is above the law and is a brilliant doctor.
What was your preparation like for your role as Karen Dunhill?
It was pretty fast and furious because I got the job rather unexpectedly. I had to research rather quickly for the role. I had to do some crash watching, so to speak. I watched four seasons in three days. The show was very intriguing to me, and I could not wait to be part of the show.
"Sons of Anarchy" has a huge following and is a great show. What were your expectations of the show before you got to the set after crash watching the previous seasons?
It was fascinating to meet the cast on set. Having watched them all, it seemed so real. When I met Charlie (Hunnam), who is the lead on the show, to hear him speak with a Newcastle accents as opposed to being this Northern California biker was quite jarring. Jimmy Smits is so extraordinary in this season. I loved "L.A. Law," and then you go and watch him playing a kind of pimp role is unreal. So I had some preconceived ideas about these people and then meeting them in person, you realize that they are not so scary.
Since the show is very dramatic and the characters have an edge to them, did any of them play any practical jokes on set to lighten the mood?
Yes, Theo (Rossi). He is definitely the court jester on the set. Actually they all are. All of them on the set like to have fun and kid around. So the mood on the set is very light, or least it was when I was there. I think it is very important to have fun, especially since the show is so dark.
Do you know the fate of your character and how many episodes you will be in?
No, I do not. The director did not tell me the fate of my character so like you and the others who watch the show, I am in the dark about my character's fate.
