Given her high-profile relationships and endless output of breakup songs, Taylor Swift might seem like a serial dater, but the Grammy-winning pop star insists that that's one of the biggest misconceptions about her love life.
Grammys: Who showed skin?
"I'm sure if I looked up the latest Google Alerts rumor, it would say I'm chasing somebody who doesn't like me as much as I like him — people love that angle on me," Swift tells the March issue of Elle. "They're like 'Oh Taylor, coming on too strong again, chasing boys.' I never chase boys. They don't like it!"
Even so, that hasn't stopped millions of fans from dissecting Swift's every move and autobiographical lyrics, searching for clues about which experience (and which person) she's singing about. "To me it's just writing songs the way I always have," Swift said of her creative process. "It's me sitting on my bed feeling pain I didn't understand, writing a song, and understanding it better. If people want to dissect the lyrics, that's their right, but it's all coming from the exact same place as where I started. It's just something I do to feel better."
But despite everything she might have gone through during her breakups with Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer, Swift insists that she only channels the pain in positive ways. "I don't think I've ever yelled at an ex-boyfriend. Ever," Swift said. "I'm not a yeller. I'm not a fit-thrower. If something is done, it's done."
Grammys: Fashion hits and misses
Swift might not be a yeller, but that didn't stop her from making an apparent jab at her most recent ex during Sunday's Grammys telecast. In the middle of performing "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Swift put on a fairly terrible British accent in what many interpreted to be an impression of Styles.
"So he calls me up and he's like, 'I still love you,'" Swift said mockingly. "And I'm like, 'I'm sorry, I'm busy opening up the Grammys!' And we're never getting back together, like, ever."
