San Francisco has been the background for many television series over the years. Here we take a look at four of the best television shows set in San Francisco.
This series ran from 2002 until 2009 and centered around Adrian Monk (played by Tony Shalhoub), a former San Francisco detective who suffered from an extreme case of obsessive compulsive disorder. Monk was placed on a psychiatric leave after the murder of his wife. He freelanced as consultant/detective in hopes that he could convince his boss, Captain Stottlemeyer (played by Ted Levine), to take him back.
This popular family series ran from 1987 until 1995 and starred Bob Saget, John Stamos, and Dave Coulier. The three men moved in together to help Danny Tanner, a San Francisco talk show host (played by Saget), raise his three daughters after the death of their mother. The show also featured Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen sharing the role of Michelle Tanner. The Olsen twins were just toddlers when the series premiered and we watched along as all the girls grew up before our eyes.
"Party of Five"
This popular drama centered around the lives of five San Francisco siblings who tried to find their way in the world after their parents were killed by a drunk driver. The series ran from 1994 until 2000 and featured Scott Wolf, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Neve Campbell, Matthew Fox, Lacey Chabert, and Jeremy London. A lot of real-life controversial subjects were tackled on the series, as the Salinger family showed the obstacles of growing up in today's society without parental influence.
"That's So Raven"
This popular Disney comedy starred Raven-Symoné (of "Cosby" fame) as San Francisco teenager Raven Baxter who discovers she has psychic abilities to see brief glimpses of the future. The show followed Raven as she tried to make these premonitions come true but oftentimes resulted in disastrous situations. The series ran from 2003 until 2007 and also featured Orlando Brown, Kyle Massey, Anneliese van der Pol and Rondell Sheridan.
Other series based in San Francisco that deserve a nod include "Streets of San Francisco," "Dharma & Greg," "Nash Bridges," "Trauma," "Falcon Crest," and "Trapper John, M.D." To see a complete list, click here.
