After a few grueling weeks and some fabulous (and some just okay) dancing, America has finally picked two winners as their favorite dancers during the "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 9 finale. Of course, before we found out if Eliana, Tiffany, Cyrus, or Chehon got the crown, we had to go through a lot of filler, including a performance by Miss "Call Me Maybe" herself, Carly Rae Jepsen. Here are some of the highlights of the two-hour finale, as well as the winners.
The return of a personal favorite
The judges often commented on how Cyrus' drive and personality got him through week after week, which seems odd because Will had just the same amount of personality. The only difference was that he was able to dance in other genres more proficiently. His "Cat Dance" with Amelia (another personal fave) brought out the lovable Will that endeared him to many, and probably made a few wonder why he wasn't up there with either Cyrus or Chehon.Sonya Tayeh, we love you
Sonya Tayeh, who looked fabulous in the finale, got a lot of love last night from the judges and contestants when they seemed to pick her routines (including that awesome "Bang Bang" number) as their favorites. She was always rather good, but now it seems that Sonya has come into a class all of her own.No, I will not sing "Call Me Maybe"
Carly Rae Jepsen might be forever linked to that one catchy tune; however last night, she proved that she can go beyond that by singing her latest song "This Kiss." It may not be as catchy, but it should still please her fans. And the winners are….
America got it right! Eliana and Chehon were both crowned as "America's Favorite Dancers." Not to bring down Tiffany or Cyrus, since they both had their incredible strengths, but overall, Chehon and Eliana combined technical skill with great performance ability. Sure, it did take Chehon awhile to warm up to the audience, and yes, Cyrus was impressive in the way he tried to tackle each dance, but Chehon had just as much of a struggle. His attempt to break free and just perform were every bit as inspiring as Cyrus', which made it even sweeter to see him match his performance with his incredible dance ability. However, that being said, there is absolutely no doubt that each of the top four will have long, successful careers in dance. What did you think of the "So You Think You Can Dance" finale? Did the right person win?
