The Three Biggest Surprises on 'Dexter'

"Dexter" is a crime drama that airs on Showtime Sunday nights at 9 pm. Throughout the six seasons of the show, there have been a lot of surprises, which make the show very interesting. Although there have been many different surprises throughout the years, especially for Dexter Morgan, some stand out more than others.

Here are three of the biggest surprises that have occurred on "Dexter" throughout the duration of the show.

    Dexter Finds Love

One of the biggest surprises of "Dexter" was when Dexter found love, because he previously seemed incapable of those feelings. Dexter was not known as an emotional person, and he often showed detachment from his relationships with other people, which is part of his serial killer persona. Dexter started dating and began having feelings for Rita, although he was unsure of just how to act his feelings out in an appropriate manner. Dexter was not into romance or mushy type of behavior, but when he started noticing he felt happy when he was around Rita, he began to realize he was indeed falling in love with her. This was a surprise because Dexter just seemed to like being alone, plus the fact his serial killing seemed to take all of his free time, which left little time for a wife or family. Dexter became really close with the kids that Rita had, and he did everything he could to protect them, even though the children did not see it the same way.

Debra Finds Dexter Killing Travis Marshall

One of the biggest surprises to ever hit "Dexter" was in the sixth season, when Dexter is in the church killing Travis Marshall. Travis was the main villain for the sixth season, and someone that Debra really wanted to catch, but he got away from the Miami Metro Homicide Department. Debra decides to go back to the church where Travis was known to frequent, because she knew Dexter would be there, and she had to tell Dexter how she felt about him. Just as Debra walks into the church, she hears someone talking, and then looks in and watches as Dexter is holding a knife above Travis. Debra stays quiet as she watches the knife plunge into the chest of Travis, and then Dexter looks over to see her standing there in the doorway. The fact that Debra caught Dexter in the act of killing was going to happen eventually, it was just the way she stumbled into the situation that was the shocker. Debra has figured out she has deep feelings for Dexter, so she was very caught off guard to see him killing Travis, and this can only complicate the relationship between the two during the upcoming season.

Trinity Kills Rita for One Last Hurrah

Season 4 ended with a bang when the Trinity Killer murders Rita in the home she shared with Dexter. This was very surprising because Dexter had been following Trinity, also known as Arthur Mitchell, for weeks, and was planning on killing him once he learned a few things from him. Dexter finally gets the situation right to kill Trinity, and when Trinity is on the table, he tells Dexter he is getting the final say in the situation. Trinity had figured out that Dexter was not Kyle Butler like he originally said, and ended up paying Dexter a visit at his work. Dexter had everything planned out for Rita and the children to leave for the weekend, so that they would be safe while he dealt with Trinity. Unfortunately, Rita had to come home because she forgot something, and that is when Trinity showed up, leaving her in a bathtub full of blood. The biggest surprise about this was that the son of Dexter and Rita, Harrison, was there when Trinity killed Rita, and he was left in a pool of blood in the bathroom. This meant that everything had come full circle since Dexter was left in a pool of blood when his mother was killed. The reason why this was so surprising was because it seemed Trinity would be dead before he could hurt anyone else, and Dexter did everything he could to protect his family.
