Tommy Chong: Whitney Houston Would Still Be Alive If She 'Stuck To Pot'

Tommy Chong - of "Cheech & Chong" fame - says Whitney Houston would still be alive today if she had used natural substances.

"Had she just stuck to pot, she'd be alive today," the actor-comedian told Access Hollywood on Tuesday night at "The Simpsons" 500th episode celebration.

"It's when you get into that other stuff... The trouble with that other stuff is that you forget you're high. You think you're taking a bath and you're not. You're under the water. It's a sad, sad thing," he continued.

Houston's cause of death is still unknown, but authorities confirmed on Monday that the late singer was submerged in a bathtub when she was first discovered on Saturday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

L.A. County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told reporters that the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office was doing routine toxicology tests, the results of which will influence the determination of Houston's exact cause of death.

In September 2009, Houston spoke out about her past drug use in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"We were lacing our marijuana with base... you put in your marijuana, you lace it, your roll it up and you smoke it," she said at the time.

"Your drug of choice was weed combined with cocaine?" Oprah asked.

"Cocaine, rock cocaine. Yes," the singer said, nodding her head.

According to Chong, Houston's death was a farewell.

"It's a sad, sad thing. In a way, though, it was like she was saying goodbye," he told Access. "Like she was passing the torch onto Adele. It was a tough one to let go. It was like she came by and said, 'OK, I'm out of here.' It's a sad, sad thing."

Bet it was the combo of benzodiazapines and ethanol. I've seen it in the ER where people never came out of a vegatative state after combining the two. The L.A. coroner's office must be smoking weed when thay say toxicology results won't be back for 6-8 weeks. These results would be available within 24-48 hours as well as tissue results of vital organs from post mortem autopsy . They are just not releasing the results due to promotional motives of the coroners office.

its because the record company is trying to figure out how to spin this like they did with Jackson and Winehouse so there records will sell! remember they are saying what a genus she was not what a junkie she really was!!

toxicology test take that long becuase no high profile death gets to supersede others. If that was the case, no other investigations would ever get attention.

ive seen the affects of everything but heroin, watched many falls, many peers fall apart

prescription drugs are among the worst of the worst especially since most people having their lives ruined by them, think its ok, because a dr says so

all in my days, all my experiences, ive never seen one negative thing happen from marijuana other then legal aspects

ive not seen one negative health impact, never seen one negative life impact, other then legal issues

there isnt a single death certificate on this planet that lists marijuana as the cause of death yet i personally know of many that have cigarettes, alcohol, or prescription drugs on their death certificate

      tommy chong is correct

i find it very telling that all major medical groups in the USA and abroad support marijuana in medicine, yet non doctor politicians tell them marijuana has no medical value

its time we the people tell the politicians to stay out of our medical affairs and obey doctors recommendations, and at the same time we need to take back control from the pharmaceutical companies, provide more transparency and oversight and stop allowing medicine to be sold for a 100 dollars a pill when it only costs 10 cents to make

Nationalize the pharmaceutical industry.....as a national security concern and safety issue. The public already pays all the funding for their research through federal grants and the National Institutes for Health, but the grug companies reap all the profits. too many of the dangers and misuse of pharma are covered up in order to feed additiona profits into their industry.

they need the profit from the pills

Not all medical groups support pot. In fact the latest study say that medical pot does not have any medical benefits.

    • L  •  3 months ago
He's 100% correct. Read Mike Gray's book "Drug Crazy: How We Got Into This Mess and How We Get Out." Quite the enlightening read on our drug laws. Of course the tobacco and alcohol industries had a HUGE say in making this natural drug illegal.

sticks and stones can break my bones but weed will never hurt me.
    • Hardware  •  3 months ago
Most weed smokers are happy, peace-loving people who would never hurt a fly. They smoke their weed, pig out, and take a nap. They don't hold up liquor stores and old ladys to support their habits. They would grow their own weed to meet their needs (if the govt. would let them), and you'd never hear a peep out of them. The "original" Americans have been doing it for centuries.

You may not like it but Cheech's other half is completely right. What a wasted talent and for some unknown psychological reason, she wanted Bobbi Brown to treat her like garbage and to bring her down to the gutter where she wallowed like a pig.
