When the hit CBS drama "NCIS" ended the season, fans were left with a cliffhanger few anticipated. The last few episodes of the season built up around the drama of the Port-to-Port Killer. This is the serial killer who brought Special Agent EJ Barrett (Sarah Jane Morris) all the way from Spain to the Washington DC office where Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team operate out of. Barrett didn't mesh well with most of Gibbs' team, and that tension set the stage for what could have been some big fireworks at the season finale.
The Port-to-Port Killer sure did leave his mark on NCIS, killing one from Barrett's team, wounding another, and kidnapping Barrett, Ziva (Cote de Pablo), and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen). When all was said and done, though, Ziva walked away unscathed and even had the possibility of marriage proposal looming in her future for the next season. Barrett was alive and unharmed, but was shaken up enough to resign from NCIS. Yet she left on good terms, and even Gibbs offered her the ability to come back when she was ready.
The big cliffhanger for the season finale was not the possibility of a death of one of the agents but rather the possibility that someone in the NCIS office was a spy. One of Gibb's own men, Special Agent Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) was commissioned to do some work incognito by none other than the new Secretary of the Navy himself. The only other person who was privy to the knowledge that an investigation was to be started was Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll).
So just who is DiNozzo investigating? Fans saw DiNozzo's eyes get huge when he opened up the case file. While it's possible he himself doesn't yet know who he is investigating and just saw other details about the case, those big eyes are a good indication that he has been assigned to investigate someone very close to him, and likely someone on his own team.
Given the fact that Gibbs hasn't been assigned the investigative detail himself, there is the possibility that he is the prime suspect. Then again, Ziva has some big-time overseas connections and a new boyfriend in the CIA who she may be getting some classified secrets from. There is also Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray). McGee has gotten some pretty flashy items for himself in recent episodes, such as a fancy sports car and expensive clothes, but he claims he's getting the cash from royalties from his book.
There are other unlikely suspects like Jimmy Palmer, Ducky (David McCallum), and Abby (Pauley Perrette). Then, of course, there is the possibility that someone is framing the suspect, and everyone on the team is innocent. The season premiere in the fall is full of possibilities!
