Top 5 Funniest Marshall Moments on 'How I Met Your Mother': Segel's Most Hilarious Lines and Flashbacks

Every "How I Met Your Mother" fan has their favorite character. But no matter if you're crazy for Barney, Lily or Robin, one thing remains: all five main characters on "HIMYM" are hilarious.

That being said, we have to admit Marshall Eriksen (played by Jason Segel) is our favorite. The show's writers have developed Marshall into an incredibly funny character, with a rich background story, knack for witty conversation and hilarious personality quirks - all while being a believable, lovable teddy bear.

The following are the top five funniest Marshall moments on "How I Met Your Mother" (at least in our opinion):

    1. Marshall defends wearing a nightshirt

In Season 4's hilarious "The Front Porch," the gang gathers in their pajamas to watch Robin's early morning news show. After Barney teases Marshall about his nightshirt, Marshall defends his pajamas with five of the funniest reasons to wear a nightshirt (including "no elastic waistband leaving it's judgmental pink teeth marks around my Thanksgiving belly").

    2. Marshall fights with his brothers

In Season 4's "The Fight," Barney and Ted tease Marshall after he admits to fighting with his brothers back in the day. While his friends envision the Eriksen brothers pillow-fighting and taking "cocoa breaks," we get a true sense of their fighting days at the end of the episode. In gritty "Fight Club" style, Marshall and his brothers literally beat the pulp out of each other.

    3. Teenage Marshall pens a letter

Marshall's funniest moments often include flashbacks to his teenage days. In Season 5's episode "The Window," Marshall finds a letter he wrote as a 15-year-old to his future adult self. This hilarious flashback includes an overalls-wearing Eriksen, with a rattail and the lyrics to Snow's "Informer."

    4. Marshall's pre-job interview ritual

This moment is classic Marshall, and an amazing example of the sharp and witty jokes created by the writers on "How I Met Your Mother." In Season 4's "The Best Burger in New York," a flashback shows Marshall's pre-job interview ritual, in which he motivates himself with pep talks in the bathroom mirror. As his unemployment streak continued, his pep talks became much, much sadder.

    5. Marshall channels Boyz II Men

In "Baby Talk" (Season 6), Lily and Marshall discuss the possibility of the name "Tara" if they ever have a daughter. Flashback to Marshall in high school, as part of a Boyz II Men-style singing group. Standing in the school hallway in matching preppy clothing, Marshall (donning a cane) and his bandmates sing an ode to Tara - the hottest girl in school - whose "booty is so smooth."
