Although the "Scandal" Season 2 finale aired May 16, fans are still buzzing about the mind-blowing twists and turns featured in the 22-episode season.
Written by ABC veteran Shonda Rhimes, this Thursday night guilty pleasure is loved by millions for its endlessly gratifying plot. As hard as it was to narrow down, here are the top six craziest game-changing twists from this past season.
Quinn's big identity revealThe Season 1 finale of "Scandal" left viewers wondering who Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) is and how she ended up at Pope & Associates. Many questions were answered when the Quinn Perkins shocker was revealed in the Season 2 premiere of the ABC hit drama. So who is Quinn? Quinn is actually a suspect on-the-run named Lindsey Dwyer. Lindsey is accused of bombing the office of her then-boyfriend, which led to the death of several innocent people. Not only were fans blown away by the Quinn/Lindsay plot twist, they were also thrown a curve ball with the revelation that Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) arranged for Huck (Guillermo Diaz) to kidnap Quinn/Lindsey, which is what led her to become a part of Pope & Associates.
Fitz finds out about Defiance
It was only a matter of time before President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) found out about Defiance, especially with the close-to-home threat of Cyrus Beene's (Jeff Perry) journalist-husband James Novak (Dan Bucatinsky), and jilted Assistant U.S. Attorney David Rosen (Joshua Malina) hot on the trail of the alleged Cytron card used to rig the election. What hurt Fitz the most? Finding out that those closest to him were behind Defiance: Olivia, Cyrus, first lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), Supreme Court Justice Verna Thornton (Debra Mooney), and Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry).
President Grant commits murder
It's safe to say viewers were shocked to learn that their beloved President Grant murdered Thornton while she lay helpless in her hospital bed. His reasoning? She was about to blow the lid on the election-rigging plan carried out by Fitz's team that guaranteed Fitz his place in the Oval Office. Fitz may have not agreed to Defiance, but he surely did not want to lose his current presidency or his potential future re-election.
Olitz fans were thrilled to see Fitz finally make a decision regarding his feelings for Olivia; he chose not to cave into first lady Mellie's demands of letting Olivia go for good. Mellie gave Fitz an ultimatum to either end his relationship with Olivia, or she would go on national television and out him as an adulterer. Fitz's choice was clear when he arrived at Olivia's apartment and proclaimed he was finally choosing her -- showing Olivia just how much she meant to him by staying with her for the last minutes of Mellie's deadline. Visibly upset, Mellie went on to out Fitz's extra-marital affair to the public. Their happiness was short-lived, though, when Olivia sent Fitz back to Mellie to guarantee a chance at a second term in the White House.
Huck's familyShonda Rhimes treated viewers to an in-depth look at Huck's past, before his involvement with the government as a hit man. Surprisingly, Huck had a real family before his arrival at Pope & Associates. During flashback sequences, it was revealed that Huck had a wife and a new infant son. Ultimately, Huck had to cut ties with his wife and infant son when his superiors threatened their lives.
Olivia's daddy issues
The Season 2 finale was packed with shockers, but this last incident will have fans on the edge of their seats until the Season 3 premiere. In the final moments of the record-breaking finale -- 9.12 million viewers tuned in -- we learned that Olivia's father is Rowan (Joe Morton). Rowan had been conspiring with Jake (Scott Foley) and Cyrus throughout the season to destroy Olivia. We don't know much about Olivia's father, but we do know that he wanted to publicly out the affair between Olivia and Fitz and had no qualms about releasing a sex tape featuring his daughter.
"Scandal" often has audiences questioning what its unpredictable characters will do next, but one thing viewers can be sure of is that Shonda Rhimes will deliver a killer premiere this fall.
