Tori Spelling is officially the hardest working mom in show business. After she announced that she was pregnant with a new baby right after the birth her youngest daughter, Hattie, fans might have expected her to take a break. After all, the Tori empire includes an Oxygen reality TV show franchise, publishing ventures, and her own crafts line. Resting, however, is not a part of Tori's vocabulary.
Tori is the host and executive producer of the TLC show "Craft Wars." What is "Craft Wars"? Picture Martha Stewart meets Heidi Klum's "Project Runway." While Tori hosts the and mentors contestants, groups of talented crafters face off in creative challenges. The show is sponsored in large part by the crafting chain store, Michael's.
There have been several interesting DIY challenges on the show. In the "Pop Craft" challenge, crafters tried to create their own bags. Challenges have also included schoolhouses and birdhouses. One "interesting" birdhouse had a playing card shingled roof.
If the series isn't enough, Tori, the workaholic, also hosts the web TV show "What Would Tori Do?" The web series shows Tori teaching viewers how to make embellished versions of some of the crafts included in the show. A bedazzled necklace from a recent webisode was especially cute.
Tori is extremely likable, and the contestants are dedicated, but the show is buoyed by the judges. Like Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie on "Fashion Star," a group of well-rounded crafting superstars mentor the challengers through their assignments.
Erica Domesek of the blog "P.S. I Made This" is an audience fave. She considers her DIY blog to be a movement and so do her legion of followers. Her simple motto, "I see it. I like it. I make it," is a call to action.
Successful entrepreneur and author Stephen Brown is also a judge. Perhaps we should call him a "craft-prenur" instead. His company Glitterville is a multi-million dollar empire. It's the business where "every day is a holiday."
Jo Pearson completes the expert squad. She's the woman responsible for much of the Michael's magic for the past 25 years. With a big personality, Jo is full of fun. How could anyone not like a woman who declares her favorite color to be glitter?!
Somewhere Tori's mogul dad Aaron Spelling is super proud. She's come a long way from "Beverly Hills, 90210," Donna Martin, and cries of nepotism. Work it, sister. The lesson for all of us is that she "made it" by being herself.
Watch "Craft Wars" on TLC on Tuesday nights. Check your local listings for exact times.
