Much like the military today, ABC's Last Resort does an excellent job representing the myriad of women involved in every facet of navy life as crewmembers and left-behind loved ones are given as much to do on the testosterone-heavy series as their male counterparts.
And it turns out that the men might end up being saved by a pair of strong-willed women stuck on the shore. Autumn Reeser's Kylie Sinclair was established in the pilot as an early ally for The Colorado crew, while Jessy Schram's Christine Kendal will begin emerging as a voice for the silenced soldiers standing their ground. And Christine has an excellent reason to represent the true intentions of Captain Marcus Chaplin and his crew since her husband, XO Sam Kendal (played by Scott Speedman), is one of the mutinied men.
I caught up with Jessy to talk about her attraction to the hit drama as well as discover what fans can expect from episode two and beyond!
TheInsider.com: What was it about Last Resort that made you want to enlist?
Jessy Schram: The part! I was reading through all the action and mystery when I got to the part of Christine and just related to her. I reached for her and it was that instant connection of a lost love and the turmoil of getting back together. That strong connection they have was the biggest thing I was drawn to. There are a lot of roles I love in this big show, but Christine sunk in my heart in a way I couldn't shake.

Insider.com: Level with me, how much of your decision was made upon learning you'd be playing Scott Speedman's wife?
Jessy: You know, it doesn't hurt. It's not the most painful thing to do [laughs]. When you sign on to a new project, you always IMDB everyone and it was like, "OK, Scott Speedman – I can work with that." But it's hard not to fall in love with all the men on this show. They're more talented than they are good looking. Which is seriously saying something.
Insider.com: But unless there's a heavy flashback element, I'd imagine you don't actually work with him that often, right?
Jessy: Yea, it's crazy. Because Christine is in the Washington world and everyone is on that island, I'm very separated from the rest of the cast. I'll see the other actors and it's like, "Um, are we on the same show?" You'll definitely see some of Sam and Christine's relationship, but for the most part, we're acting based on what we imagine each other to be.

Insider.com: The pilot indicated that Christine would be fed a lot of information about her husband's innocence or guilt. Does she ever doubt him?
Jessy: They share beliefs and a moral compass. She is connected to her intuition and goes off that. There may be a point where that changes down the road because she's getting bombarded with a lot of outside information but it's from people she's not sure of. Christine loves Sam, so it goes so much deeper than that – she knows his soul and trusts that whatever decision he's made, it's in the best interest of the country. She'll follow him through the trenches and fight back.
Insider.com: What do you mean by, "fight back?"
Jessy: Christine finds her voice. Right off the bat, you'll see her get pushed into a corner with no one to reach out to as she's being told information about her husband, who she thought she knew every crevice of. She's in the dark with all this knowledge, but she finds her voice through this and Christine doesn't back down. She won't be quiet. No matter what she is going to make sure she sees Sam again.
Last Resort airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
