The finale of "La Casa De Al Lado" has disappointed many fans who have taken over the official Facebook page of the telenovela. Although some of the characters find redemption, the show spares Javier and does not give Pilar a happy ending. The Mora brothers are partially destroyed, but their fate does not make up for their previous crimes.
Death for Adolfo and Prison for Gonzalo
Carola's attempts to destroy Adolfo are finally successful, but capturing Gonzalo is more difficult. "La Casa De Al Lado" resorts to poetic justice by killing Adolfo in a fire set by Carola. It is a fitting reminder of Adolfo's obsession with fire and previous arson cases. However, Gonzalo's punishment is more lax. After kidnapping Pilar's son and being involved in a police chase, Gonzalo is finally captured and sent to prison.
Pilar's Obsession
For the majority of the show, Gonzalo's obsession with Pilar is obvious. His fear of losing her love and her ultimate rejection push him over the edge. "La Casa De Al Lado" attempts to display Gonzalo's precarious mental state with hallucinations and suicide attempts. The finale reveals that their love is not an example of attraction between opposites. In the last scenes of the show, Pilar seems to be suffering from the same type of hallucinations as she envisions Gonzalo hiding by the trees and waiting for her.
Alone?
Javier is the only person who escapes justice and is shown living alone, talking to a dead Ignacia and still occupying the Conde Spender home. It does not seem like a fair ending for one of the main villains of "La Casa De Al Lado." At a minimum, he should be sharing a cell with Gonzalo for his own crimes. However, the greatest injustice in "La Casa De Al Lado" is Pilar's fate. Although she is reunited with her family, she is alone and still obsessed with Gonzalo. Instead of providing a happy conclusion to end her suffering, the show simply glosses over the problems and leaves her single.
A Forced Reunion
"La Casa De Al Lado" creates a forced reunion in the final scenes of the show. The remainder of the Conde Spencer family gathers with Pilar's family to celebrate. Emilio and his wife bring their daughter, and Pilar shows the excited group that Rebeca is making progress in physical therapy. The happiness is tinged with regret for Pilar who still sees Gonzalo in her hallucinations.
