USA Network’s ‘Suits’: Who is Hardman? We Finally Have Some Answers

On March 30, Deadline.com announced that David Costabile was going to be joining "Suits" in a recurring role as Daniel Hardman, the Hardman of Pearson Hardman. We only have a few details. We know he was a brilliant lawyer who used to manage the firm. Jessica (Gina Torres) ran Pearson Hardman in his absence, but we do not yet know why he left in the first place. We also know that he will be returning after the death of his wife.

    The actor

David Costabile is best known for his roles on "The Wire" (as Thomas Klebanow) and "Damages" (as Detective Rick Messer). He also played the geeky Gale Boetticher on "Breaking Bad," and Doug, the pushover husband on "Flight of the Conchords." If you never saw those shows, you've surely seen him on one of his many guest spots, from "Without a Trace" to "The Office" to "Person of Interest."

He seems like the perfect actor to play a role on "Suits," whether it be serious with comedic undertones or comedic with serious undertones. He has played all these types of characters and more. He's a great choice to play Daniel Hardman.

    The character

Daniel Hardman is a mysterious character. Until now, we did not even know whether Hardman was a man or a woman. We still don't know much, other than the fact that he may be a bit of a tragic character, since he has lost his wife.

    Possibilities

Since "Suits" is a dramedy, it's unlikely the character will be entirely tragic. He may be tragic in the sense that Michael Scott (Steve Carell) was tragic on "The Office." He could be hopelessly, embarrassingly, and pathetically tragic in an uncomfortably hilarious way. He could be tragic in the sense that Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) is tragic, but more pragmatically.

Now that Hardman has lost his wife, there is also a chance he could have a love interest at some point. Perhaps he could have an uncomfortable crush on Jessica, or even Rachel (Meghan Markle). If he is anything like the other characters on "Suits," he will be unique to say the least. Whether he brings a serious tone, a dramedic tone, or a straight comedic tone, fans know it will be entertaining.
