    'Vampire Diaries,' 'Modern Family' Stars Join Alloy's 'Dating Rules' (Exclusive)

    The Vampire Diaries' Candice Accola and Modern Family's Reid Ewing have joined Alloy's popular web series Dating Rules From My Future Self.

    Life Unexpected's Shiri Appleby, who starred in the first season of the series that has received nearly 14 million views, will return to direct and appear in an episode.

    Accola will play Chloe Cunningham, a 26-year-old who receives a visit from her older, wiser self via face time who texts her advice from 10 years in the future, thanks to an app provided by Appleby's character.

    What role Ewing -- who recurs as Haley's dingbat boyfriend on ABC's Modern Family -- would have in the series was unavailable.

    In addition to appearing and directing, Appleby will also produce alongside Accola; Alloy's Leslie Morgenstein, Bob Levy, Josh Bank and Tripp Reed will executive produce the six-episode season, which begins production in Los Angeles this week for an August premiere.

    Dating Rules ranks as the best-performing shortform series on Hulu to date; during its first week it served as the No. 1 most-watched show and No. 6 most popular video on YouTube. It stands as the company's most successful web property to date and reteams the company with Accola, who stars as Caroline Forbes on the Alloy-produced CW vampire drama The Vampire Diaries.

    In addition to its six web properties, Alloy also produces Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and ABC's upcoming drama 666 Park Avenue.
