Stefan in two places at once
Nina Dobrev has gotten to show off her acting chops playing both vampire Katherine and doppelganger Elena throughout "The Vampire Diaries" series. Now it's Paul Wesley's turn, as he takes on the role of Silas, who has Stefan's visage, while the original is incapacitated. As Silas, Wesley gets to be the wicked man of mystery, always taunting Damon with his lurking, hidden agenda. "'I'm getting my revenge," Wesley says, "for playing droopy, sad Stefan for five years."
"The Vampire Diaries" has never been a show to shy away from disturbing predicaments, and they'll also give us a peek inside Stefan's chilling fate. Submerged in a lock box, drowning over and over, Wesley will also get to play a guy suffering immensely, lost in "dreams and visions" that will no doubt haunt him long after his ordeal is over. This series once again proves that immortality has its downside.
Matt's crazy summer
Apparently, it was no accident that Matt (Zach Roerig) took the center spot in "The Vampire Diaries" promotional poster. Showrunner Julie Plec promises he'll get a juicy storyline in Season 5. Fans know this guy has probably had some of the worst luck in Mystic Falls, and without much of a support system to get him through it. He finally gets a little light in his life in the form of a steamy summer fling with Rebekah (Claire Holt), although, of course, it's not going to last.
It seems that Matt will bring another beauty home with him, however: the mysterious Nadia (Olga Fonda). Like many characters on the show, she's conniving, opportunistic, and seeking vengeance. Much like Rebekah, she also feels the loneliness of her life path, so maybe Matt can help her find a little solace, as well. Male fans of the show will no doubt be happy to see as much of this sexy Russian model and actress as possible.
Elena's new beau and BFF
"The Vampire Diaries" has finally put Elena and Damon together. Viewers will get to see how the two interact now as a real couple and not just an angst-ridden piece of a love triangle. It will be interesting to see how Damon can deal with an actual girlfriend, rather than just being the sexy tempter trying to lure her away from his brother.
Fans also know how jealous Damon can be, and he'll get tested again in Season 5. While at college, Elena will meet up with Aaron (Shaun Sipos), a human with a past as tragic as her own. The two will bond as friends, which is something Elena really needs, but will Damon understand?
Season 5 of "The Vampire Diaries" premieres Thursday, October 3 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
