COLOGNE, Germany – VFX Group Pixomondo, an Oscar winner for its work on Martin Scorcese's Hugo, has shut down its operations in London and Detroit, citing a desire to focus on improving its cost base.
The London operation was at the center of Pixomondo's work on Hugo. Pixomondo COO Christian Vogt said the company proved unable in the past three years to build their local businesses in London and Detroit generating their own revenues. He said the decision to close their operations, however, was not a sign that the German effects house was withdrawing from the international stage.
Pixomondo worked on sequences on A Good Day to Die Hard, will handle the VFX work on upcoming Tom Cruise sci fi actioner Oblivion, as well as the third season of Game of Thrones, where the company will create the digital dragons for the HBO fantasy series.
