Victoria Beckham on Being a Working Mom: "It's Tough"

Victoria Beckham may be difficult to read from a public profile standpoint, but deep down inside, she's dealing with the balancing act called life.

So when the 37-year-old mom of four, who presented a collection at New York Fashion Week Feb. 15, showed up in London on Saturday like a less-polished version of herself, the star had some frank words for her critics.

"Look, if people want to say I'm miserable then so be it," she told the Daily Mirror. "I'm really not. I have a lot on my plate. I'm not going to lie about it, I'm tired. I'm really tired but I'm also very happy with my life."

Beckham, who lives in Los Angeles with her L.A. Galaxy soccer star husband David Beckham and their four children, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, 9, Cruz, 6, and Harper, 7 months, has spent the past few weeks jetting to New York and her homeland, England. Along for the ride? Baby Harper.

"I'm not getting much sleep at all," she continued to The Mirror. "Harper's not sleeping that great, and I've been taking Skype business calls throughout the night, too, because of the collections. I'm up with the baby as all mums are, and I wouldn't have it any other way. There's not a team of people doing it for me."

Over the past year, both David and Victoria have been moving full speed ahead with their businesses. Earlier this month, David launched an underwear line at H&M -- his first brand into apparel.

Victoria's new dress line, Victoria Victoria Beckham, just hit stores with its spring collection while her new collection for Victoria Beckham is being reviewed by buyers for the fall/winter.

"I'm basically just like any woman who's working and has lots of children -– it's tough," she added.

I admire her honesty and her hands on attitude with her children. She has more than enough money to pay for a baby nurse so she can sleep 12 hours a night but she is a hard working mom with a strong work ethic. Very rare in 'Hollywood' these days.

It takes more energy to constantly wear a frown than to smile.

Why is everyone so upset? She is human no matter if she worked a 9-5 or has her own clothing line being a mom is alot of work. People think her life should be easy because she has money but no matter the money a child needs attention. She's like any other women but with a diffrent salary.

She may have it all but that doesnt mean that she isnt also working her butt off to support her family. We all love to make fun of her and hate her because she has the money to hire nannies, BUT SHE DOESNT. Shes raising her kids herself and also working and supporting her family just like 99% of all moms out there. Why hate her for wanting the best for her family? So what she makes millions more, shes still a loving mother who is taking care of her family instead of just shopping all day with her hubbys money! We are all tired at the end of the day and if she wants to complain every once in a friggin while so be it. You all #$%$ and moan everyday of your lives too.

Victoria, Yes indeed it's tough to be a mother and at the same time so sweet. I know, to be in your boot; you are a hard worker. God blessed you with those boys and a lovely girl Harper - Oooh so sweet like the father, be proud of what God has given you. Your most Cherrished gift from God bcoz not even money will surpass that - You know that is why you cant rest, you have to look after them. God Bless You Victoria - Zambia

Enjoy the baby daughter and DON'T work for a year or two. SIMPLE solution for the mega-rich.

All the working moms out there that are working their butts off and supporting their kids: more power to you. I can only imagine how hard it is. On another note, don't 'hate' on Victoria Beckham. She knows she has the money to easily raise her kids. If you know you cannot afford to have children, then don't have them.

That's what happens when you name one of your kids after the Canadian Prime Minister. She should go fill the tub with hundred dollar bills and just soak for awhile, just like the rest of do when we're feeling worn down.

.........and about 250 million dollars to fall back on incase her line doesn't work out. You kidding me? Tough? Boo hoo!

Give me a break!!The women who are really tired are the one's who are working 2 or 3 jobs at minimum wage and that don't have a husband to help them out.I'm not crying too many tears for Victoria. She has no clue as to what us "regular folks" deal with on a daily basis.

Yes I'm one of those single moms who raised a child to an adult by myself by working 2 and sometimes 3 jobs. How stupid could I have been? I should have acted on my inner dreams and my God-given ambitions. I can't hate her because she did. I admire it. She's no different than you or me. She just took actions. And it's not too late for us. I'm 45 and I'm gonna start doing now what I should have done 25 years ago and cause the success, relationship, and contentment that I deserve. Better late than never.

Who in here said anything about hating her? We just can't praise her for doing what we have all done without the pat on the back or praise for doing what women have done since EVE. I like her I am sure we all like her no one hates her; we just don't want to pump her up the same way you are. I raised two kids alone also big whoopie; I had them it was my job as a mother that's what you do. It offends those of us that have already done this job for someone who doesn't have to struggle and they want to make her a poster child for being a Struggling Mother. You they should call and do this article then we would be all right with it. Or some other woman who is or has truly struggled. Good grief these young people today think they should be patted on the back every thing they are expected to do anyway. Money or no money this woman would have to parent. Take all her money put her in a low income area and let her go get a regular job and lets see how fast she starts whinning and crying; she wouldn't last.

I love Victoria Beckham, but I'm also sick of working moms complaining about how hard it is. We get it already. It's tough.

Try on some compassion. If it doesn't fit you can always take it off and go back to not caring what life is like for other's.

Mother's can't win...if we say "Everthing is wonderful, perfect & easy", people say we're lying (which we are)...if we tell the truth, we're told "stay home with your baby, or quit complaining".

I personally just smile, and file it away...in a few years the 'friends' saying this crap are the ones calling me crying after having a baby, saying how tired they are, how their husbands are unfeeling, and my favorite, how "no one understands!"
      • Aliana 3 months ago
I said I get that it's hard. I know that. I'm just tired of hearing every single celeb mom say how hard it is. I get it, it's hard. They don't have to keep repeating themselves.

That friggin' sourpuss is insulting 99% of working mothers who are just trying to squeeze by day after day! Most women are as busy as they HAVE to be.. Mrs. B is as busy as she WANTS to be.. Quit whining!

Its really sad so many of you are being hateful because she has money. She wasn't asking for sympathy. Money makes PROVIDING for your children easier not actually CARING for your children. Care requires more than just finances it involves time and effort. She works and maybe she does have nannies for when she needs to work.. don't single mothers utilize daycare services and sitters? So whats the difference? does that mean because she has money she doesn't stay up at night when her baby isn't sleeping or when one of her boys are sick? Its disgusting that people are sitting here saying she doesn't know hard because she has money. PARENTING IS HARD end of story is it harder for some due to life situations? Yes, of course.. but no one is arguing with that so why are people even bringing it up?

"she is NOT just like any woman" she wants us, the little people, believe she just like any woman, But she not. She has nannies, cook and who know what. Not a bad life. So Victoria stop frownning about it. Normal people do it everyday....
      • Desiree 3 months ago
No she's not just like any woman. She's ambitious and makes smart choices. And still human enough to be fully engaged in family life. That's not at all like any woman. But our daughters and sons might benefit if they saw more ambition from their parents. It's just my opinion.
