VIDEO: Let's Dissect the First Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser!

The first teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness is here and  the title isn't kidding — this thing is dark! The one-minute spot gives us our first glimpse of Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch as Kirk's mysterious new nemesis, and he does not sound like somebody you want to mess with.

Losties? Trekkies? Which TV show has the best fans? Vote now!

"You think your world is safe. It is an illusion, a comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace," Cumberbatch's character warns. "For I have returned to have my vengeance!"

The trailer includes any array of mysterious new settings (and a whole lot of gray scarves). Plus erupting lava, ass-kicking, running through glass, screaming, crying, and explosions!

We're almost out of breath trying to list everything the teaser packs into the tiny clip. But the one thing not included was any glimpse of Peter Weller, whose character plays a mentor to Cumberbatch's. This could be because Weller's character has some sort of telling outfit or makeup that would give away the villains' tightly-wrapped identities.

Another thing shockingly missing from the teaser: space! The majority of the clip is very much grounded, taking place in what appears to be a futuristic San Francisco. (Though shots of an unknown alien planet and a few onboard the Enterprise are included, as well.)

One of the few interesting Easter Eggs the trailer does reveal is Cumberbatch decked out in a Star Fleet uniform when Kirk approaches him. The mysterious character is also seen kicking some serious Klingon butt at one point.

Watch the full teaser below. Any thoughts on who Cumberbatch and Weller might be playing?
