'The Voice's' Christina Aguilera on Live Show Cuts, and Why She Doesn't Read What's Written About Her

On Tuesday’s live results show of The Voice, two of the remaining 12 contestants were sent home, based solely on America’s votes.

One of the artists who was ousted -- Adriana Louise -- was from Christina Aguilera’s team. And while the coach had no power to save anyone from her team this time around, she said that this new system which relies only on how viewers vote, isn’t all bad.

“On one level I’m a little thankful that all the pressure is not on my shoulders to make the decision,” she told The Hollywood Reporter after the show.

However, seeing one of her team members go wasn’t easy for the coach, who is now starring in her third season on the NBC singing competition.

“It’s bittersweet,” she said. “They’re all ‘the voice’ in their own different ways, and they’ll keep fighting from here. As I say, this is only the beginning.”

Tuesday was a long day for Aguilera, with her new album, Lotus, hitting stores that very day.

Aguilera won’t be returning for the spring season of The Voice so that she can promote her seventh studio album. So, the singer, who performed “Make the World Move” with Cee Lo Green on Tuesday's show, is sharing as much knowledge as she can on her current class of students.

“If you wanna get into this business, know that you cannot eat, sleep or breathe without having music in your life, and having it pump through your veins,” she said.

“Because this is their first sort of opportunity to be shown to the world in such a large way, it’s easy for them to feel vulnerable or sensitive to what people say,” she added. “I just tell them, if you’re going to be in this business and you’re going to survive, there are going to be a lot of people who either love you or hate you.”

Aguilera follows her own advice, telling reporters that she doesn’t read what is written about her in the press and online.

“I stay far away from that,” she said. “I don’t have time for it. I’m a mom. As soon as the wig comes off, and I go home, I’m putting sweats on and I go into mommy mode, or I go back into artist mode after the show. I have so many things going on, and I don’t have time to really look what people are saying or doing.”

The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on NBC.
