'Walking Dead' star mum about show's mystery

NEW YORK (AP) — Andrew Lincoln, who stars as Sheriff Rick Grimes in "The Walking Dead," says he loves a secret.

That's partly why Lincoln has told no one the answer to what's become the biggest mystery of the AMC zombie drama: What scientist Dr. Jenner whispered to Rick in the season one finale.

"Not even my wife knows what he whispered to me," Lincoln said in an interview Wednesday.

Lincoln said that in keeping the secret he feels he is being true to his character in the show.

"He chooses not to tell people so why would I tell," Lincoln said of the sheriff.

What was said has only been heard by a handful of people, and the mystery has become the object of intense scrutiny by fans.

Lincoln said he realized just how curious people were when a show editor revealed he had scrolled through hours of show footage and listened in on radio traffic to find the only two takes where the brief remarks were audible. The cast says the contents of the conversation will be revealed this season.

Lincoln, who says the comments are "pivotal" for Rick, hints that the message was not good news.

"This is a scientist who seemingly held all the cards to what this epidemic is about and I do think, you know, you would imagine he would have something of value to say on that matter," Lincoln said. "Well, he chose to kill himself."

The actor also said that Rick and his ragged group of survivors will likely leave the farm where they've taken refuge this season.

"Something happens and they realize very quickly that the farm is not as secure as they may think," he said.

The series continues Sunday at 9 p.m. EST (0200 GMT).

The comic doesn't give them a very happy ending, but that doesn't really matter I guess, since the show hasn't followed the story line in the comics.

Shut up Bran ( I can say that publicly, He's my husband) I think the virus is probably changing from direct contact to airborne maybe....OR....it could be that the zombies if left alone will "live, as it were" despite the fact they are dead. There is no putrification going on really, i mean parts of them arent falling off or rotting to the point of muscular degenration....and since all this time has passed (aprox 9 months since the CDC Didnt Jenner say something about 190 some days since it went global) why are they NOT decompossing....hmmmmm....indeed.

I would think the decomposition rate would be higher in the warm/hot humid southern region, The bacteria would obliterate the walkers' flesh in no time at all.
The oldest walkers should resemble "Boomers" from the Left 4 Dead series.
I do like the airborne idea though, altho I dont read the comics I really dont know if they included the airborne idea in the stories.

I am just dying to know (no pun intended) those words but have great respect for Mr. Lincoln's professionalism. I am just on the edge of my seat to see where this goes.

I watched the marathon on Sat and Sun; when I finally left the house I found myself walking around with my head on a swivel looking for "walkers" at every turn.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who does that.

After last Sunday's episode, Mr. Lincoln's character shot off like a rocket in my respect for him. I was almost dancing around my living room. This is the best show on television. It is, if I may say, even better than "Lost." Thank you, Mr. Lincoln, for keeping your mouth shut. I won't wait for any episode to be re-aired on On Demand. Not this season. I'll stay up on Sunday, and be tired on Monday, and not care. I love this show.

For most of the show Rick acted like Jack Shepard from Lost, but in that final scene he turned into Raylan Givens of Justified.

If it were me in that group I would convince Daryl and Dale to follow me into the woods and leave the rest of these weak folks behind. Redneck or not Daryl is the kind of dude you want to be with when SHTF. Merle was a tragic loss in my eyes even if he was a racist.
Down here we look passed the way a person was raised when it comes to surviving. We embody our racial history unlike the rest of the northern and western states. We know down here we are different and respect each other for keeping it real on both sides. If you was raised not to like peeps of other color thats fine. We AIN'T gonna hate you for it. We accept each other for what we are. We just won't be going to each others fishing trips or cook outs.
But when zombies invade our space I promise hater and the hatee will stand side by side until everyone of these walkers are eliminated and after we're done we will start talking shiz bout each other again. The greatest romance story never told "Socio-southern upbringing" We got history down here and some wounds take a long time to heal , but we do it on our own terms not by the words of politicians. We are all stronger for doing it this way.

IF you die and aren't bit, you turn into a zombie as the virus is airborne. That's why Rick gave the fat redneck in the bar the double tap with one in the head
    • C  •  3 months ago
I think it has now evolved to be airborne. The girl in the house is now sick, has a fever, but she wasn't bitten by her mother- she only had close contact with her. LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

Another mystery nobody seems to remember-whatever happened to the black man and son who took Rick in and nursed him after he escaped from the hospital?
