If you were to ask fans of "The Walking Dead" about which character they hate the most, most would comment on either Shane or Lori. A perusal of the official Facebook page for the show would find countless comments by people who can't wait to see Rick's wife have her final moments. There are reasons why many of us hate Lori more than Shane.
Comic Book Rollover
Anyone who has read the comic book version of the show is sure to point out how Lori is one of the more annoying characters. In the comic, she complains every single time Rick attempts to leave the surroundings of the group to recue someone, scout or get supplies. Some fans even notice tension over this fact between Carl and his mother. He reminds her how his father always comes back. I believe the history which comic book fans had with the character made them automatically see the TV version in a negative light even though she does not whine nearly as much as her penciled counterpart.
Rick Deserves Better
Rick Grimes is arguably one of the stronger characters on TV right now. Fans would expect him to have a strong counterpart. Instead, we have a woman in Lori who crumbled and allowed herself into a relationship with Shane within days of Rick's apparent death. She has kept secrets from him and may be carrying another man's child. We hate her for all she is not.
Lori's Role
While I would not call fans of "The Walking Dead" feminists, there has been a strong backlash against Lori's belief that women should be working in the house while the men work to keep them safe. The recent argument with Andrea about the role of women in the group infuriated many fans of the show. The few fans she could claim may have all turned their backs.
Closure
With Shane, we realize the writers will give us the death scene which we have been waiting for. We know it is only a matter of time until karma comes knocking on his door and someone takes him out. With Lori, though, we cannot be sure if she is going to be killed off. While she dies in the comic book, it is not a guarantee as we have assumed with Shane. We hate her as we do not know if we will ever get closure on her character.
