We've Learned From Sagan how to do Science for All

    November 10, 2009
Flash, glitz, whatever it takes to make science understandable and, yes, entertaining---anything that grabs the attention of otherwise uninterested viewers, and allows for comprehension in the minds of a wide range of ages and intellectual capacity---I'm all for it!

I remember learning from Carl Sagan that I'm "made of stardust," and science became a world of the miraculous, of the enchanted, for me, and for my children as well.

I don't know whether there was a direct link between Sagan and NOVA. I know that many "serious" scientists looked down their noses at him, for inviting the less-than-higher-math-minded, into their lofty domain--and doing it in a way that got people to ENJOY learning. What a heretic! What a genius!

Because I used to pass out in math class (in elementary school, already) and wake up being violently ill in the nurse's office, WAY before math phobia had even been invented, I thought science was forever off limits for me. Carl Sagan, and NOVA, have welcomed me and made me feel at home, in a place where I otherwise might have continued to be afraid, and to be shunned by those whose arrogance suggested that if you don't get it in college, you're shouldn't get it at all.

I'm a pragmatist: If this is how some people learn science, please keep bringing it on!

    Whoossshhhh....

    November 3, 2009
This show was outrageously flashy and glitzy. It assumes that its viewers have the attention span of fans of commercial TV murder shows. What an insult! It's tragic that some PBS science shows are adopting this production style. I gave up on it after 20 minutes. As much as I love evolution shows, I won't be watching any more of this Becoming Human series.

What brave guys...What a difference they make!

    September 19, 2009
This adventure into the permafrost was one more chance for me to learn clues to our evolution. Valuable information is just waiting for men to uncover it. NOVA expands my tiny world here on the corner of Kent and Mahler Drives where nothing of note ever happens except the grass growing. Traveling the world with NOVA, PBS and NPR expands what man knows about himself. Human accomplishment comes only when brave people like these give years of their lives to add to human knowledge, unlike the average American wasting his life on a sofa with a beer. These scientific soldiers fight lack of funding that keeps us in ignorance while millions are given to football and rock stars. Without guys like these we'll still be ignorant believers in the supernatural.
Wish every child and young person would get hooked on NOVA!
Keep supporting art and science guys and sharing it with us.

    That guy's laugh is annoying

    September 1, 2009
This is awful. The laughing was annoying.

All this is old news. There is no new or exciting science here.

Nova has gone way too far off it's roots.
