Charlie Sheen's roles in Oliver Stone's gritty Vietnam War drama "Platoon" (1986) and Stone's bleak portrait of Reagan-era greed, "Wall Street" (1987), gave the actor his big break in Hollywood, but those films proved to be anomalies in a career later characterized by laughs - both on- and off-screen.
