Mariel Hemingway

About Mariel Hemingway

Hemingway made her feature debut with her older sister Margot (formerly Margaux) in the controversial rape drama "Lipstick" (1976). She starred as a lesbian pentathlete in "Personal Best" (1982) and as murdered Playboy model and actress Dorothy Stratten in Bob Fosse's "Star 80" (1983). Hemingway then treaded water in a string of less than successful features including "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" (1987), Blake Edward's "Sunset" (1988), Tom Mankiewicz's "Delirious" (1991) and John Mellencamp's "Falling from Grace" (1992).

Hemingway's small screen appearances have garnered respectable attention. Besides several well received TV-movies (as an unwed mother in her debut "I Want to Keep My Baby" 1977, and as an Israeli-trained fighter pilot in "Steel the Sky" 1988) and a miniseries ("Amerika" 1987), she played sexy divorce lawyer Sydney Guilford, a regular role on the intelligent courtroom drama series "Civil Wars" (1991-93). In 1995, she returned to series TV, headlining the CBS sudser "Central Park West" as naive magazine editor Stephanie Wells, coping with her writer-husband's ambitions and a less-than-supportive staff. Dissatisfied with the development of the character, Hemingway opted to leave the series after the first thirteen episodes.
