Back in 1981, while the country waited all summer long to find out “Who Shot J.R.?” Hagman took advantage of the buzz and pushed for a substantial raise. The network scrambled to find a Plan B, angling to bring in Robert Culp to play J.R., who’d undergo extensive plastic surgery after the shooting. After two episodes of a bandaged body double subbing in for Hagman, the two sides came to an agreement, paving the way for twelve more seasons (and counting!) of Ewing family drama. less
