Sci-fi fans were all set to watch this remake of the '70s original series, but what a joy to find out it had dropped the campy vibe and was instead a genuinely terrific drama. Capt. Adama (Edward James Olmos) led the relatively small group of survivors of a Cylon attack that had wiped out the human population, as the group traveled throughout space in the titular ship, seeking refuge on a planet they'd heard about called Earth. Well-developed characters and storylines were entertaining and served to comment on larger issues like religion, government, and war, and earned the show Peabody Awards, multiple Emmys, and a spot on Time magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All Time" list.
