Entertainment is in Justine Bateman's blood. Her father, Kent, was an acting coach and a writer and director for films. Her younger brother, Jason, was already starring on "Little House on the Prairie" when Justine got her first big role on "Family Ties." She earned two Emmy nominations for her portrayal of the ultra-superficial Mallory Keaton.
But when the show ended, another hit eluded her. She went on to do a slew of TV movies in the '90s. Her return to sitcoms with the edgy "Men Behaving Badly" ended after the first season. A decade later, she had a 10-episode arc on the quirky dramedy "Men in Trees."
In recent years Bateman's primetime appearances have been sporadic and have included stints on "Private Practice" and "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior." In the meantime, she's turned her attention to emerging platforms. Her production company, Section 5, has covered a number of big events and produced Web series. Bateman has appeared in several Internet projects, including "Wake Up and Get Real," a talk show she did with "America's Next Top Model" judge Kelly Cutrone.
Bateman admittedly hit rock bottom after "Ties" and told Entertainment Weekly back in '96 that she had suffered from anorexia and bulimia. These days, Bateman is back on track. She has been married to real-estate developer Mark Fluent since 2001, and they have two children, Duke and Gianetta.
