"Aliens in America" is a sweet, fish-out-of-water comedy about a foreign exchange student and his quirky host family, slotted in The CW’s Monday night comedy lineup. According to Ausiello, "Positive reviews and strong internal support has yet to translate into good ratings. And it's too bad." Fans of the show will be happy to learn that it has eight pre-strike episodes in the can and will return to air 3/2. "Back to You" premiered this season with the TV pedigree baked in. Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton star in Steven Levitan’s comedy set within a Pittsburgh nighttime news program. Ausiello tells us that the show "didn't experience enough of an "American Idol" bump to make it a lock for next season." In the meantime, the cast has returned to work and is expected to shoot up to eight additional episodes, the first of which airs 4/16. In the smart new comedy "The Big Bang Theory," geeky friends Sheldon and Leonard can't get enough of quantum physics, but they start learning a few much-needed lessons in love once they get a beautiful new neighbor. Good news for fans, says Ausielllo. "Viewers are going to get a lot of Bang for CBS' buck. The sitcom's already been renewed for a second season." "Big Shots" was the story of four high-powered guys who seemingly had it all... except for in their personal lives. NBC should have never resurrected the 1970s TV cult drama "Bionic Woman." Even with a glammed-up, bad-girl version of Katee Sackhoff – who stole the spotlight from newcomer Michelle Ryan – the show failed to impress audiences. Ausiello suggests that we "cue the falling ax" because "despite a promising start, 'Bionic' quickly lost ratings and momentum." Last year we saw the battle of "SNL"-themed projects. This season "Sex and the City"-style shows entered the ring, and it wasn’t pretty. "Cane" is an epic, soapy family drama that stars Jimmy Smits and harkens back to the ‘80s heyday of “Dallas” and “Dynasty.” The show follows the Duques, a Cuban-American family living in Florida, constantly battling with their arch-rivals, the Samuels. Ausiello says, "Fans are mobilizing for a fight, but it may be too late." There are no more episodes set to air this season. A show about a bunch of guys stuck in traffic every morning sure didn’t sound appealing, even with the likable Jerry O’Connell attached to the series. Not surprisingly, "Carpoolers" has pretty much turned into road kill. "Ratings continue to go in reverse,” says Ausiello. “I challenge you to find one person that even watches it. You've no-doubt seen the commercials and sympathized with the plight of those misunderstood Neolithic throwbacks. His life changed when he opened a classified e-mail from an old college buddy which downloaded the government's top secrets into his brain. With the country's most sensitive data stored in his head, Chuck reluctantly became a government agent with the fate of the world in his hands. "If ever there was a show that deserves to be a big fat hit, it's this one," says Ausiello. "Good thing NBC agrees -- it's coming back next year." The Hiltons and the Trumps have nothing on the Darlings on "Dirty Sexy Money." Lawyer Nick George’s full-time job is taking care of the uber-rich Darling family members and dealing with all the crazy predicaments they get themselves into. Ausiello says, "The strike may've slowed the show's momentum, but it didn't stop it. ABC has already renewed it for next season." Jonny Lee Miller stars as "Eli Stone" in ABC’s lawyer-gone-good drama about a man (Miller) suffering from a brain aneurysm that causes hallucinations that inspire him to greatness. "Gossip Girl," is a racy teen soap that has been a big hit with teens and parents alike. The lifestyles of these rich and fabulous kids are filled with outrageous and over-the-top scandals that result in addictive TV-viewing. The ever-changing friendships and hookups amidst envy, lust and greed are the kind of stuff our voyeuristic world eats up. Ausiello reassures us that "the ratings have yet to match the buzz, but that should change next season. And there WILL be a next season." In "Journeyman," San Francisco newspaper reporter and family man Dan Vasser (Kevin McKidd) led an idyllic life until he abruptly and inexplicably had the ability to travel through time. Ausiello reminds us that "the journey ended in November, but that's not stopping diehard fans from demanding its return." This buddy cop drama was one of the first scripted TV shows to tackle the issues facing a post-Katrina New Orleans. "K-Ville" followed a seasoned cop committed to the tattered Ninth Ward who’s paired with a new partner with a dark secret, but the duo’s chemistry just wasn’t there. According to Ausiello, "Leading man Anthony Anderson is in talks to replace Jesse Martin on ‘Law & Order.’ You do the math." "Life" follows police officer Charlie Crews, who, after spending 12 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit, was exonerated, got his job back on the LAPD, and is now obsessed with finding out who framed him. Thanks in part to Damian Lewis’s perfect portrayal of the quirky cop, "Life" will be sticking around. "The show's small but loyal following earned it an early pickup," says Ausiello. Teen drama "Life is Wild," about a high school girl from Manhattan who moves to Africa with her blended family, certainly had beautiful scenery and wildlife on its side since the show was shot on location in South Africa. Unfortunately, a pretty background wasn’t enough to keep viewers. And Ausiello points out an important little detail: "Cast and crew are already out of Africa," he says. It's no wonder that "Moonlight's" won the People's Choice Award for Best New Drama. Fans love this show about a good-looking vampire who protects the weak, stands up for the innocent, and hunts down the guilty. Four new episodes are expected to begin airing on 4/11, but according to Ausiello, "Recent backstage strife has decreased its renewal odds." But keep your fingers crossed because, says Ausiello, "on the bright side, fans are going batty over this vampire drama." "Private Practice," follows the character of Addison Montgomery from Seattle Grace and "Grey's Anatomy," as she sets off on her own to find herself in sunny Southern California at the Oceanside Wellness Center. There aren’t any more episodes planned for this TV season, but there will be plenty of our favorite redhead come the fall. Colorful, magical, and with a lead character known as the Pie Maker, "Pushing Daisies" burst onto the scene this season and was a much needed breath of fresh air. Ned is a man that can bring the dead back to life with one touch, but brings permanent death with a follow-up touch. Ausiello says, "Ratings have yet to match its acclaim. The supernatural dramedy that turned an otherwise loser into a savior of the world as a "Reaper" working for the Devil still has three more pre-strike episodes to air. Despite the episode order, Ausiello says, "Creatively, it failed to live up to the lofty expectations it set in the flawless pilot. And the ratings? Hellish." Christina Applegate made a triumphant return to TV in "Samantha Who?." as a woman who can’t remember anything about her past, or for that matter, how bad a person she once was. Look for more amnesiac fun and mischief with BFFs Dena and Andrea as there are three pre-strike episodes left and the show is expected to shoot three more episodes, all of which will air starting 4/7.
