more "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"As the decades pass, it seems to get harder and harder for Disney to make a movie that is worthy of being a part of the studio's vault of classic family films. But as
a Variety review pointed out when "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" hit theaters in 1989, the flick is "in the best tradition of Disney -- and even better than that, because it is not so juvenile that adults won't be thoroughly entertained." The charming cast -- which included Rick Moranis, Amy O'Neill, Robert Oliveri, and Marcia Strassman -- teamed with the oversized special effects, made the movie a surefire hit.
It was almost 10 years before the movie was made into a series in 1997. This time, Peter Scolari took on the role of the Szalinski family dad and inventor, Wayne. Barbara Alyn Woods played his wife, and Hillary Tuck and Thomas Dekker played the soon-to-be-shrunken children in question. Unfortunately, the series' fan base also decreased in size, and the syndicated show went off the air after three seasons.
