Spending his days surrounded by corpses in the family funeral home allowed David Fisher to bury his personal details for decades. But when his father
suddenly passed away and his free-spirited brother, Nate, returned to partner with him in the business, the repressed David found himself thrust into a whole new life.
Despite the fact that David had once been
engaged to Jennifer Mason, he was secretly dating African American police officer Keith Charles. Closeted even from his family, David maintained that Keith was simply his racquetball partner. Finally frustrated with what he considered David's self-loathing, Keith called it quits. Then after a period of dangerous promiscuity, David finally came out.
After seasons of turmoil in their on-again, off-again love affair, David and Keith finally settled down for good in the show's final season. They
adopted two children, Anthony and Durrell, and ultimately reclaimed the Fisher & Sons Funeral Home as their family business.
In the
series finale, which revealed the futures of all of the show's main characters, David and Keith married. But Keith was tragically killed in a robbery attempt. Luckily, David found love again with Raoul Martinez.
