It's pretty safe to say that no gay TV couple has infiltrated mainstream America as much as Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker of "Modern Family." Each week, Mitch and Cam prove that gay couples are just like straight couples; they just happen to be of the same sex.
Off-camera, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is openly gay and Eric Stonestreet is straight. But their on-screen chemistry would have any viewer convinced that they're a real couple. With their adopted daughter, Lily, they deal with the same issues most people do, such as picking the right school and staining a friend's expensive rug. Deep down, Mitch and Cam are just a loving couple who embrace each other's quirks and love one another even more because of them.
Despite featuring what would have once been considered a too-controversial-for-primetime gay couple, "Modern Family" is a favorite of fans and critics alike. The show has won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series with Stonestreet winning the Supporting Actor Emmy
twice. It even
crosses partisan lines: both Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, and Democratic first lady Michelle Obama have said they're big fans of the show.
