In 2003, the five gay stars of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" became the hottest TV stars around. Each
week, "food and wine connoisseur" Ted Allen, "grooming guru" Kyan Douglas, "design doctor" Thom Filicia, "fashion savant" Carson Kressley, and "culture vulture" Jai Rodriguez would transform an average guy into the perfect man.
Dubbed the Fab Five, the makeover team was constantly on a mission to make every man metrosexual. They would help him match his accessories, teach him how to prepare the perfect amuse bouche for a romantic meal, trim his unwieldy locks to their satisfaction, and show him the proper dance moves for a big event; and all the while they would "
tjuz" his outfit for a flawless look.
The "Queer Eye" flame burned fast and bright. A line of products, including books, soundtracks, and DVDs, followed. The Fab Five
popped up everywhere, from "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to Barbara Walters' "Ten Most Fascinating People of 2003." That same year, Out magazine dubbed them one of the "greatest gay success stories." A "Queer Eye for the Straight Girl" spinoff lasted only one season. When the novelty of the original concept wore off, the series went off the air.
