Even though he was only 12 years old when he joined the cast of "The Facts of Life" in Season 6, Mackenzie Astin knew his way around a Hollywood set. Not only had he appeared in series like "Finder of Lost Loves" and "Hail to the Chief," but his parents were famous actors. Astin was the second son of John Astin and Patty Duke, and his older brother Sean had already filmed the soon-to-be hit movie "The Goonies."
Astin weathered his awkward early-teen phase quite well during his four years on the sitcom. He even took home the Young Artist Award for Best Young Supporting Actor in a Television Series in 1986, but he never seemed to find the same level of success that he enjoyed at such a young age.
That doesn't mean he hasn't been working steadily since. In fact, he's made over 40 appearances in movies, TV movies, and series over the years with parts in "Lost," "Psych," and "Grey's Anatomy." He currently has four movies in post-production: the comedy "Stag Hunt," the holiday flick "Elf-Man," the drama "Lonely Boy," and the family film "Zombeo and Juliecula."
Astin is married to Jennifer Abbott Astin, but seems to closely guard the details of his private life. His mother has been very open about her personal struggles in the book and TV movie "Call Me Anna," which probably influenced his decision to keep his professional and personal lives separate.
