That can largely be attributed to the brilliant casting of Fred Savage, the actor who played Kevin Arnold. The 12-year-old actor was the obvious choice for the role, creators Neal Marlens and Carol Black have admitted. When creating the series, Marlens and Black interviewed five casting directors to cast the position; all five candidates recommended Savage for the lead.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing once he got the part. The young actor stood all of 4-foot-10 during his formative years on the show. Unfortunately for him, his co-star Danica McKellar went through a growth spurt that influenced a storyline in which the young couple had a bit of a break.
