    Visually and intellectually stunning

    October 3, 2007
I'll be the first to admit when I saw the first batch of promos for Daisies , I had zero intention of watching it. The premise sounded like a bad joke, not too dissimiliar from what I thought when I heard the same network were developing inane Geico commercials into a sitcom. (Really. That's horrible.)
Cynicism aside, I got the opportunity to view the pilot about a month ago, and on a whim, I did. By the end of the 43 minutes, I was hooked for life. A well-written and expertly delivered script, visual effects that are candy for the eyes, and a solid A-grade cast make this show one to stop time for. Lee Pace is enchanting as Ned, and Anna Friel is (ironically) lively and perky as the once-dead Chuck.
The most pleasant surprise in the pilot is the way the show deals with death. From the preliminary promos, it seems that Ned's interaction with the dead is selfish- motivated by the rewards offered for the solving of a murder, he brings someone back to life, asks who killed them, and sends them back to the beyond. All in a minute. While the scenario is true, the pilot episode makes it clear that this is the starting point for Ned, not the destination he has in mind. In subsequent episodes, I think Chuck's presence will change Ned's expectations and alter the way he deals with the people his power allows him to touch.
In a sea of procedurals, whether dealing with crime, medicine, or the sex lives of impossibly pretty people, Pushing Daisies is a gem among stones. A creative team of genuises, a great cast, and gifted writers propel this show to the top of this season's new-show pile.

    Fresh and Exciting

    October 9, 2007
I must admit when I saw the previews for this show I wasn't that enthused. It has been quite awhile since anything great has been produced. Same ole same ole has been the case for the networks of late. Anyway, for a lack of anything else on last week I decided to tune in. At first I wasn't too sure about the show but soon into it found myself intensely drawn to the plot. It was almost like Tim Burton and Dr. Seuss was on a trip with Alice in Wonderland: an inexplicable voyage into an adult fairytale that left me ready for more. I know this kind of morbid comedy isn’t suited for everyone. However, I would suggest holding your judgment until after you watch a complete episode for yourself. I did and I loved it, you may too! One things for sure, there’s nothing else like it out there right now.

    Fanciful Whimsy

    October 5, 2007
Undoubtedly, the best new show this season is “Pushing Daisies.” Better than pie, this show is a delicious treat. It’s fresh, witty, original, quirky, whimsical, clever, innocent, cute, sweet, surprising, hilarious, fast-paced, beautifully-filmed, adorably-acted, and eloquently-written, with a fascinating plot and loveable characters. Fortunately, in spite of its over-the-top presentation (which actually works really well for the show) and delectable sweetness, it avoids being saccharine by instead being bizarre (in a good way).

Unlike the other new TV shows like the immature Private Practice (if you can call a spin-off new) or The Bionic Woman (if you can call a re-make new), this show is actually original. It is in a similar spirit to Tim Burton's Big Fish, but actually way better. (Mind you, I say this as a huge Tim Burton fan: Few things are as good as the fanciful delights Burton dreams up.) Both the dialogue and the visual filming are clever in their own ways. After recording the Pie-lette episode, I've since watched it about 3 times. It gets better every time, I still giggle through about half of it, and I just can't get enough.

One of the best things about the show is that--unlike most other shows on TV--it's not sordidly obsessed with who's jumping into bed with who. It is indescribably refreshing to discover a show with natural innocence and a built-in safeguard against gross promiscuity (i.e., he CAN'T touch her because she would die). The fact that the pie-maker and Chuck can't actually come into contact forces the writers to be exceptionally creative, and it makes the would-be lovers' interactions that much more charming.

Please watch it so the ratings climb and it doesn’t get cancelled! Why am I worried about it getting canceled if it’s so swell? I think people think it’s too fast-paced (i.e., too intelligent for the average couch potato to keep up), too outlandish (i.e., too unique and extraordinary), and too morally prim (i.e., not sleazy or dirty enough). But that’s why everyone should watch it!

    Magical!

    October 5, 2007
I absolutely loved this show! It generally takes me a while to warm up to new shows (if at all), but I found the characters were quickly developed and although it's true noone can bring people back from the dead (except that dude in the Bible -- but if you want reality watch the evening news or Big Brother), I think the premise of the show is fresh, original and the show altogether is great. It was funny to read previous reviews that dished the show because it was unbelievable -- isn't the reason we have T.V. is to escape from our lives and be taken somewhere else? This show has it all. I love the narrator -- he gives the show a magical, Nanny McPhee-ish quality, and the vivid color and music make it very different from anything else I've seen on T.V. in a long time. It's fresh, fun, new, exciting and I can't wait to see what happens next!!!

    Must see!

    September 13, 2007
In response to the poster who titled their review Another death whisperer? This show is not another death whisperer, he doesn't leave the dead living because if they are alive for more than 60 seconds someone else must die in their place. Get all the facts of the show straight before you make inaccurate criticisms. I have already watched the pilot episode and i loved every second of it. I was skeptical about it at first but the stylized look and brilliant writing just hooked me in. The show is a mix of Desperate Housewives, Big Fish, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and six feet under. I strongly recommend tuning in for this fantastic program.
