American Horror Story was my favorite show last season. It was clever, creepy, sexy and suspenseful. I could not wait for this season to start.
I was disappointed with the first episode this season because the wit, spookiness, subtlety and character development I loved seemed to be absent. The acting, as always, is excellent, but couldn't compensate for the story lines. I hung in there for several weeks hoping it would get better, but instead it only deteriorated. This season the show is about as subtle as a hammer to the frontal lobe, or more accurately, a chainsaw to a helpless victim. It is filled with every overworked horror movie cliche they could cram in, from zombies, to aliens, to sadistic doctors, to human dismemberment.
I really do miss the first season and would love to watch something that was as psychologically scary and suspenseful, but this isn't it. Not even close.
If you want a scary show that is intelligently written and suspenseful for more than just the first season, I suggest The Walking Dead.
