the premise of this show had some very unique teaching aspects in the difficulties of the many jobs. a lot of people never know what goes into making their lives comfortable from the lumber cut from trees to the oil drilled from the ground (two of my favs). for some reason, i missed the last show and never saw who was the winner, but i know who should have won.
also, some of those jobs were very dangerous and i was surprised how little those workers got paid for risking their lives. some i think i could do, but many i couldn't - so my hat goes off to those who make our lives so much easier.
this reminded me of a series of shows on the History channel in the past few years about jobs that were necessary to make england great. it starred a quirkily funny guy named Jackie Robinson who went thru the Worst Jobs in History starting at the Middle Ages all the way thru the Tudors to the Industrial Age. if you ever get a chance to catch these shows, i think you will find them oddly funny, yet very entertaining and highly educational.
so many things have been done by those who will never get their proper acknowledgement and that have made this a better world and i guarantee you couldn't find people to do them today.
where it failed was the choice of participants, esp. the awful and obnoxious NY guy.and the switching of programming from the scheduled nights which made for missed episodes and kind of
non-continuity. selecting better cast members - people truly fit for the hardness of many of those jobs would make it more real to all.
