In vain, Kate tries to convince Paul to marry her and move away. She tells him about his baby that he may never get to see; she also makes him promise not to go to the cannery. Overwhelmed that his girlfriend claims to know the future and can predict his death, Paul decides to do some searching on his own. Noticing that Paul is missing, Kate seeks the help of her friend David. As they search the riverbank, Kate realizes that the events are unfolding the same way that they did the first time. She realizes that David loves her and ask him if it is possible to love two people at the same time. Kate goes to the cannery, where she sees the security guard, Ray, igniting the cannery fire with a cigarette. Searching for Kate, Paul comes by the cannery and rushes in to save her from the flames.
Paul is fatally wounded, but Kate struggles to make her way through, only to notice a younger version of herself on the outside, staring at the burning building. When Kate wakes up, she finds herself on the river embankment once again. David and Meghan are there. She kisses David, a kiss that signifies that the past is over and she is ready to begin her new life with him. Kate has accepted her past in order to move forward into the future.
