Arrested Development is one of the most well written shows that I've seen. I own all 3 seasons and it's a show that is funny each time you watch it. The first time that I watched it though, I didn't think it was such a clever comedy. It's a character driven show and by the second season it really helped to know the characters to understand the jokes. Their funniest jokes were subtle utterances that alluded to past moments from earlier episodes. One small example of this is the scene in the third season where Lucille, George, and Lindsay all break into their own chicken dance. I personally think the scene is hilarious. It plays off numerous previous instances of Gob's rediculous chicken dance, but unless you'd watched previous seasons it can come off as complete nonsense. So if someone had just happened upon the show through channel surfing it could be easily dismissed as rediculous physical comedy. That being said, if anyone sat down and watched the show for more than a few episodes, I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't be placed in their personal top 5 comedies of all time.
